A newborn sleeps a genuinely huge amount (14 to 17 hours across a full day), but almost none of it comes in a stretch longer than 2 to 4 hours, day or night, because their stomach is tiny and they need to feed constantly to keep up with growth.
Newborns haven't developed a circadian rhythm yet. The internal clock that eventually tells the body "it's nighttime, stay asleep" doesn't really start switching on until 6 to 9 weeks. Until then, sleep is driven almost entirely by hunger and tiny sleep-pressure cycles, completely indifferent to the actual time on the clock.
Nothing to fix here. This stage is about survival, not schedule-building. The one thing worth starting early: exposing them to bright natural light during the day and keeping nights dim and quiet, since that's the input their body will eventually use to build a real day/night rhythm.

By 7 to 8 months, most babies can handle noticeably longer stretches of awake time. The middle or last of three naps is usually the one that starts getting hard to protect, since it's competing with a wake window that's now longer than the schedule assumes.
